Welcome to the OpenOil Project

OpenOil (app.openoil.org) is an Open-Source data warehouse for publicly available oil & gas datasets.

Oil companies waste tens of thousands of dollars a year purchasing datasets whose prices are reflected not in the data itself but in advanced visualization tools for which most E&P companies have already purchased specific software for. As such, firms go to each state's website to export that state's unique data, in format and layout, as a more cost-effective option. Engineers/Data Analysts spend upwards of 80% of their time preparing data for analysis that takes a couple of minutes to provide real insights when leveraging in-house visualization software.

Here at OpenOil, we seek to fix these problems by providing people in oil & gas the ability to explore centralized, well-documented datasets. Users can quickly filter and download formatted datasets that are ready to import into any in-house software for more advanced analysis.  Our fully documented data warehouse is Open-Source, allowing users to replicate this data warehouse in their own environment.

This project's goal is to finally Open-Source an industry that has not widely accepted the world's most powerful platform: human connectivity.  Thank you for visiting us and we look forward having you along with us on this journey.
